Wine Tasting - Vinho Verde

Image
Name: Gateway Variety: Vinho Verde Region: Vinho Verde Country: Portugal Year:  2020 Price:  $15 Winery Review:  Lovely! Crisp, limestone, citrus, herbal. Such a great vinho verde for the price! I can't wait to drink a lot of this in the summer time! Wine Folly (pg 184):  Wine Folly states this wine is offered in white, rose, and red styles. The most popular being a fruity white with a touch of spritz. This wine pairs very well with fish tacos, mango salsa, and ceviche. I agree with the pairing choices, I didn't pair this wine with anything but based on the taste of it sounds like it would work well. Wine Folly says this wine has a lot of citrus flavor, I thought it reminded me more of an apple flavor profile with some citrus. My Review:  I found this wine to be quite delicious. I loved the fact that it was carbonated, I thought it added a nice element to the wine. Similar to a Riesling, I got strong notes of apple with a subtle citrus flavor. This wine was sweet, but not too

Wine Tasting - Riesling #2

Image
Name: Escher Haus Variety:  Reisling Region: Rheinhessen Country: Germany Year:  2021 Price:  $15 Winery Review:  Very nice sipping wine. Good Apple flavor, home of pear with a great underlying mineral notes and an aftertaste reminiscent of wet stone.  Wine Folly (pg 158):  Wine Folly states this wine can range from dry whites to very sweet. This specific wine was definitely more on the sweeter side. Reisling has notes of lime, green apple, beeswax, jasmine, and petroleum. Like the previous Reisling I blogged about, I got the strongest notes from the apple with a slight citrus flavor, likely from the lime. The wine was a little less sweet than the previous Reisling but I think I enjoyed this wine a little more.  My Review: I had tasted Riesling before and I was already a big fan of them. I love the apple flavor of the wine with a small taste of alcohol. This wine was a little less sweet than the previous Riseling I have tasted which I actually enjoyed more. As mention in the online r

Wine Dinner 3rd Period

Image
Dinner Blog A few weeks ago, my friends and I got together again for another wine dinner at my place. This time, we decided to go a more Italian direction by pairing two white wines with caesar sald and garlic bread and a red with spaghetti and meatballs. This was another great experience as I made homemade meatballs and tomato sauce for me and my guests to enjoy. As usual, seeing how the wines paired with their respective foods added another element to a very fun and enjoyable night. My favorite pairing for this dinner was the Riesling paired with the caesar salad. I thought the pairing was very light and refreshing and set a very nice tone for the rest of the dinner and our nights.  Pairing #1: Caesar Salad Paired with a Riesling Name: Relax Variety: Riesling Country: Germany Vintage Year: Couldn't find Price: $12.99 We paired the Riesling with a caesar salad as the appetizer of our meal. Riesling is one of my favorite wines to drink and this one didn't disappoint. The ligh

Wine Tasting - Moscato

Image
Name: Yosemite Road Vineyards Variety:  Moscato Region:  California Country:  USA Year:  2021 Price:  $10 Winery Review:  Fruity and sweet. Defintely worth pairing with foods. Affordable! Wine Folly:  ( I couldn't find Moscato in Wine Folly, but I found it online so no page number). The online source mentions notes of lemon, orange, pear, orange blossom, and honey suckle. I wasn't getting much of a citrus note in this wine, however it was very sweet, likely coming from the honey suckle.  My Review:  Like the Reisling I drank this week, I also enjoyed this wine outside on a sunny day. This wine had been chilled before being served which helped me enjoy the crisp wine on a warm and sunny day. This wine had an overwhelming sweet flavor to me which is why I only enjoyed one glass of this wine. I wasn't able to get many other flavor profiles due to this. This brand of Moscato was not my favorite, however, since it is such a popular wine, I hope to try the wine from different vin

Wine Tasting - Reisling

Image
Name: Pacific Rim Variety:  Reisling Region:  Colombia Valley, Washington Country:  USA Year:  2021 Price:  $15 Winery Review:  Whoa! This wine is so delicious and refreshing when chilled. It taste notes of apple and pear, it almost has a taste most similar to a chilled apple cider. If you’re a newbie wine drinker, or just appreciate wines that taste more like a fruity, refreshing drink then this is your wine! I can not believe I found a wine that actually has lovely taste to it! Wine Folly (pg 158):  Wine Folly states this wine can range from dry whites to very sweet. This specific wine was definitely more on the sweeter side. Reisling has notes of lime, green apple, beeswax, jasmine, and petroleum. I got the strongest notes from the apple with a slight citrus flavor, likely from the lime. The sweetness of the wine may have come from beeswax but I can't be too sure. I did not get notes of jasmine or petroleum.  My Review:  I enjoyed this wine outside during the day. I found this

Wine Tasting - Red Blend

Image
Name: Menage a Trois Variety: Red Blend Region: California Country:  USA Year:  2020 Price:  $9 Winery Review:  The 2019 Ménage à Trois Red Blend is smooth, elevated, and sweet. TASTING NOTES: This wine brings ripe fruit, candied nuances on a textured and medium-sweet palate. Chill it down and drink by itself or with fresh fruits in season.   Wine Folly (pg. 189, 88):  The first wine in the blend is a Zinfandel. This wine has notes of cinnamon and sweet tobacco which I got tiny hints of. I did however, get some hints of blackberry and a strong tannin flavor as well. The second wine was the Cabernet Sauvignon. Another wine with notes of some warm spices, includes the taste of grahite in its flavor palette. I got some notes of some cherry from this wine mixed in the bottle. My Review:  This wine had a very warm flavor to it from the different spices mixed into their flavor profiles. I thought this wine had a very tannic flavor while also being slightly sweet. I got mostly the taste of

Wine Tasting Sauvignon Blanc

Image
Name: Monkey Bay Variety: Sauvignon Blanc Region: Marlborough Country: New Zealand Year:  2020 Price:  $9 Winery Review: Very tropical on the nose, pineapple pear grass melon lime passion fruit minerals stone apricot honey, medium to low acidity, medium to long finish, stone and minerals in the palette. Wine Folly (pg. 165):  A white wine with strong herbaceous flavors and highly acidic. Unlike the online review, I agree with the wine folly about the acidity of this wine. It had a sharp taste that I believe could pair very nicely with something salty. I tasted hints of apple which wasn't mentioned in the book.  My Review:  A light bodied wine that was highly acidic. I tasted notes of apple and maybe a little citrus in there as well. I enjoyed this wine but wish the acidity was slightly weaker. The wine was chilled before consumption which definitely enhanced the flavors of the wine. I read about herbaceous and mineral flavors which I did not pick up on but could be worth trying i
